The substance of sound

Martin Bízik

The relationship between sound and matter. Matter as a source of sound and at the same time its form, while forming their inseparable parts of each other. The synthesis itself is complemented by software solutions that transform the given elements into the final result. The installation, moving in the field of sound-art, creates an experimental musical instrument with open possibilities of reception by the viewer through its intervention in the space. The title refers to the overlap between the digital and the physical. The sound substance, in this case the sound of water, reacts to the active involvement of the viewer and his movement, which captures and spreads the sound of water based on its physical properties, whereby water also becomes its substance - the substance of sound. It is also a reflection of acoustic waves to which the water reacts.

Martin Bízik (*1996, Martin) is a graduate (2022) of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, Digital Media Studio with prof. MgA. Ing. Michal Murín, ArtD. He works on the border between digital media and site-specific installations. In his work, the author uses and constructs his own measuring devices and subsequently transforms the obtained data into a visual and/or sound form (sonification of data). The result is works mapping the natural environment, experimental instruments and sound installations moving between the intentions of art and science. His interest in interdisciplinary overlaps is also reflected in his nomination for the DOSKY 2022 award for the best scenography of the season for the show Vnorená (independent group Odivo).
